Red State Welfare Queens

That idiot Mitt Romney’s comment on the 47% of Americans who don’t pay federal taxes got me thinking: Who actually pays taxes? And where do they go? And wouldn’t you know it, it’s the Red States — the Republican States — that are the real moochers. The Republican States, the States with the loudest voices baying for Democratic (and democratic) blood, the whining, insistent, self-righteous, anti-government bible-thumpers are the ones getting the most benefits from the government they seek to dismantle. And who’s paying for their welfare? The Blue States.
A recent NY Times article on the subject reported, “even as fiscally conservative lawmakers complain about deficit spending, their constituents don’t want to give up their social security checks, medicare benefits, or earned-income tax credits that provide a safety net for the struggling middle class.” Yet the majority of voters in these States rail the loudest against government spending. It’s no secret that the Republicans do a great job of convincing people to vote against their self-interest so maybe it’s a bit unfair to blame the voters. But I feel no qualms about magnifying the Republican party’s hypocrisy.
Mother Jones posts: “Of the 22 states that went to McCain in 2008, 86% received more federal spending than they paid in taxes in 2010. In contrast, 55% of the states that went to Obama received more than they paid in. Republican states, on average, received $1.46 in federal spending for every tax dollar paid; Democratic states, on average, received $1.16 for every tax dollar paid.” That’s right, the reckless, tax and spend liberals pay more and receive less than the rational, fiscally conservative moderates of the Republican party.
The online magazine “Addicting Info.” posts: “Apparently conservative voters have yet to connect the dots to figure out that Democratic states, who are paying more and getting back less, are in fact the ones responsible for supporting the real welfare states…the Red ones.”
One study shows that Alaska tops the list of states receiving the most federal money per person. Yep, you heard right: Sarah Palin’s solidly Republican state of self-reliant, anti-government, rugged backwoodsmen are in fact nothing more than the dependent little pansies they accuse those of us who actually support them of being. They should thank the likes of North Carolina and Massachusetts who receive among the least and pay in among the most. You’re welcome!
